Hi. You have reached a webpage by Ted and Barbara Moulson - the proud owners of Garrison Holidays: Campsite and Holiday Cottages. We offer great value camping and self-catering holidays, with beautiful views, near Hugh Town on the stunning Isles of Scilly.
We are both actually qualified Pharmacists (!) but have decided quality of life and our children's welfare is more important than making money in the "rat-race". We moved to the Isles of Scilly in January 1997. The Isles of Scilly are a sub-tropical archipelago of islands situated 28 miles south west of Lands End, Cornwall, England. They are truly beautiful; a match for any of the more exotic and well known locations world wide!
These beautiful small islands are a haven indeed for those looking for solitude and natural beauty. For anyone who enjoys the outdoor life there is no lovelier place in the UK. There are over 140 islands of which five are inhabited - St Mary`s, Tresco, Bryher, St Agnes and St Martin`s. Blessed with a mild climate, the islands are adorned with subtropical plants, and Tresco Abbey has beautiful gardens which are well worth a visit.
Most visitors arrive on the islands via either the Scillonian III boat which leaves from Penzance daily and lands in Hugh Town on St Mary`s or otherwise they use the Sky Bus. A helicopter service runs from Penzance to Tresco. The other islands are easily accessible from St Mary`s by using numerous boat trips offered. The islands are a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) testament to the unique landscape that exists here. This includes some of the highest concentrations of prehistoric remains anywhere in Britain. Rare species of birds and plant life are found here, many unique to Scilly. Birdwatching and scuba diving are popular outdoor activities along the coastline. Some of the greatest numbers of old shipwrecks in Britain are found in the waters around the Scillies and the islands also boast 27 sites of Special Scientific Interest.
The islands are characterised by some of the best beaches in Britain with white sandy coves, rugged granite headlands, moorland sites and little fields home to colourful narcissi flowers which are an important industry for the islands.
The waters around the islands are clear and clean and ideal for beach activities. St Martins, the most northerly island is known for its long stretches of sandy beaches. Daily boat trips leave St. Mary`s for other islands, and there are sailings focussing on bird and seal watching. Puffins nest on Annet annually and people of all ages love to see these unusual birds which nest on the ground. At the eastern isles there is the opportunity to swim with seals!
Outdoor activities for the visitor are varied and interesting and include sailing, canoeing, horse-riding, windsurfing, sea fishing, learning to paint, photography, coastal walking, cycling, diving with seals and high speed boat trips to uninhabited islands. The right clothing can make such a difference to outdoor pursuits and there is a huge and varied choice of practical yet stylish clothing available to the modern outdoor enthusiast such as mountain equipment Anyone visiting the Scilly Isles can choose from a vast selection on offer. The visitor to the Scilly Isles will leave feeling refreshed and almost certainly wanting to come back again. These islands are known to leave a lasting impression.
The local population is totally in keeping with the islands, warm and extremely friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The pace of life soothes you as soon as you land on the islands. The pressures of modern life seem to lift immediately, relaxation is virtually automatic!
